Two people were rescued from a yacht off Cleethorpes just before 8am this morning after a sharp eyed member of the public noticed that their yacht had capsized and they were in the water.

Its believed that the 14ft yacht got in to difficulty after striking an object in the water. Cleethorpes Coastguard Rescue Team, Cleethorpes Inshore Lifeboat, RAF Rescue 128 from Leconfield and Cleethorpes Beach Safety were all called to assist. The two yachtsmen were brought back to safety by the inshore lifeboat.

Mike Green, Watch Manager at Humber Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, said:

The yachtsmen were well prepared for the unexpected this morning and were fortunate when a member of the public realised they were in difficulty and called 999 Coastguard.

Because of the quick thinking of this person the yachtsmen were rescued uninjured. Id like to thank him for his assistance and remind people to call 999 Coastguard if you see someone in trouble on the coast. This call could save a life.
