Swansea Coastguard have co-ordinated the rescue of two fishermen after their boat was caught in a swell and rolled over.

At 14.24hrs Coastguard received the first report of two persons in the water at Limeslade Bay. Mumbles Coastguard Rescue Team, Mumbles RNLI Inshore Lifeboat, Langland RNLI Lifeguards and RAF Rescue 169 raced to the scene. There they found two fishermen in difficulty; one was perched on the rocks and the other was still in the water. Neither were wearing lifejackets.

Their 16ft fishing boat was being smashed against the rocks and sank as Rescue helicopter 169 airlifted the injured person from the rocks. Mumbles Inshore Lifeboat rescued the other casualty from the water and took them to Mumbles Boat House to rendezvous with the ambulance.

Swansea Watch Officer Ivor Parry said:

The sea is unpredictable. Even on the sunniest of days unexpected swells can catch experienced mariners out. Its therefore important that you give your rescuers every opportunity to find you in time by wearing a lifejacket.
