At ten minutes to three this afternoon, Humber Coastguard called out Coastguard teams from Redcar, Skinningrove and Staithes to a report of a woman trapped on the cliffs at Huntcliffe, near Redcar. The Redcar RNLI Lifeboats and a rescue helicopter were requested. The Lifeboats found the woman at the base of the cliff trapped by the tide but unhurt. She was taken to safety by the helicopter .
Then at six oclock this evening, Humber Coastguard were informed that two youths were now trapped on the rocks by heavy seas near South Shields. The South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade was despatched to the scene as was a rescue helicopter. The helicopter rescued the two youths and took them to safety.
Minutes after the youths were rescued from the cliff a yacht called for assistance. The yacht had broken down previously and was assisted by the Redcar RNLI Lifeboat. It now had broken down again and two of its crew members had now taken sick. Redcar RNLI Lifeboat launched to the yacht and the Coxn assessed the sick crew members were better to be taken off by helicopter to get them to shore. This was done by the rescue helicopter who took the dehydrated crew members to the James Cook Hospital at Middlesbrough. The yacht, was then towed into Hartlepool by the Hartlepool RNLI Lifeboat.
Humber Coastguard Watch Manager Drew Mahood said:
The rescued people were very lucky in all of these occasions. The quick response by the rescue teams, lifeboats and Helicopter saved the day for all of them.
