At 8.30 this morning, Falmouth Coastguard had a call from the cruise liner Braemar, who was docked at St. Marys on the Isles of Scilly and had a female passenger with a broken hip that needed to be taken to hospital.
Falmouth Coastguard sent Rescue Helicopter 193 from RNAS Culdrose to winch the 79-year-old lady and take her to Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
At 13.55 this afternoon, Falmouth Coastguard received another call from the Braemar, this time with an 80-year-old male passenger who had suffered a heart attack. Rescue Helicopter 193 once again went to the cruise liner to winch the man, and take him on to Royal Cornwall Hospital.
Falmouth Coastguard Watch Manager Henry Purbrick said:
Medical evacuations from vessels are fairly routine incidents for us, be it taking people to hospital from huge cruise liners to small fishing vessels. But to send a helicopter to the same cruise ship in one day to take passengers to the same hospital is somewhat out of the ordinary.
