Ideally a drogue is used as a means of allowing the safe and substantial slowing of a vessel when it is impossible to heave to or luff up owing to the sea state. They are designed to stream behind a vessel while running downwind increasing directional stability and reducing the risk of broaching. They are NOT designed to stream off the bow as they do not have the holding power to arrest a vessels drift in heavy seas and gale force winds. In this circumstance a proper Parachute Sea Anchor is required.
The design of the Para Anchor Drogue creates a very high drag and a constant pressure wave. The Para Anchor Drogue will not break free of the water and maintains an even and positive drag on the vessel. The Para Anchor Drogue has a simple adjustable vent that can be pre-tensioned to vary the load being applied to the boat. When stowed the Para Anchor Drogue is able to be stored in a shoe-box sized locker.
Manufactured from High-Density Nylon with all seams and panels heavily reinforced, These drogues are built to work in the most extreme conditions of the Southern Oceans.
The Para Anchor Drogue is available in three models suitable for boats up to 20-50ft, 50-70ft and 70-90ft and each model comes complete with its own carry case. This drogue requires a deployment line of about 80 metres of 14mm nylon braided line. (not supplied)
