Meeting the demands of both commercial mariners and recreational boaters, the new McMurdo Smartfind 406Mhz EPIRBs herald the arrival of the next generation in EPIRB technology.
The innovative new McMurdo Smartfind G5 is a compact, accurate and robust, 406Mhz Distress Alerting EPIRB offering boaters peace of mind while out on the water.
Designed to operate with the COSPAS / SARSAT international search and rescue system. Once removed from its Carrysafe Mounting Bracket the unit can be activated automatically by immersion in water, or manually by following the activation instructions printed on the unit.
The Smartfind G5 406Mhz EPIRB works by transmitting radio signals on the 406Mhz frequency which are detected by the COSPAS / SARSAT satellite network. The distress signal is then automatically relayed through an automatic ground station to a rescue co-ordination centre where it is decoded and the location and registration details of the EPIRB are passed on to the relevant search and rescue services in the vicinity of the vessel in distress.
The McMurdo Smartfind G5 also offers an additional high level of accuracy with an integral GPS receiver, ideal for sailors who are venturing further afield the GPS receiver ensures the exact position of a casualty is relayed to the rescue services which can save vital time in a recovery. The Smartfind G5 also gives visual indication of GPS acquisition.
The McMurdo Smartfind G5 EPIRB also transmits a second signal on 121.5Mhz which is used by search and rescue aircraft and lifeboats to home-in on the vessel in distress in the final stages of the search. Identification of the beacon at night is greatly aided by the high intensity flashing LED marker light built in to the top of the beacons casing.
Supplied complete with a McMurdo Carrysafe Bulkhead Mounting Bracket, all McMurdo Smartfind 406Mhz EPIRBs benefit from the latest non-hazardous battery technology which means they can be easily and cheaply shipped worldwide without the hazardous goods restrictions that apply to all other makes of 406Mhz EPIRBS currently on the market. These non-hazardous batteries also benefit from a 6-year shelf life (from manufacture date) compared to the 5-years of all other models.
All McMurdo Smartfind EPIRBs have a 6-year manufacturers warranty and have a comprehensive Self Test function that can be activated by the user using the Test Switch on the top of the unit.
